North American February moves

GCW Global Customised Wealth appointed new partners: Adam Domat, serving in the capacity of investment professional, and Mark Evans, serving as chief operating officer and chief financial officer. Domat focuses on investment sourcing and diligence, as well as contributing to the ongoing enhancement of GCW's portfolio construction modeling. Evans is responsible for developing and maintaining GCW's operational and financial processes and controls. Domat is based in Palo Alto, California and Evans is based in the firm's London office.

Prior to joining GCW, Domat worked at Jasper Ridge Partners, where he evaluated investment opportunities and put portfolios together. Previously, he was an analyst at Morgan Stanley, where he advised global corporate clients on managing interest rates and foreign exchange risk. Evans was COO at IVC, a hedge fund-of-funds provider. Prior to this, he was the global head of equity derivatives risk control at UBS before becoming a senior equity derivatives structurer marketer. Evans has also held senior operational and control positions, including responsibility for global FX risk management, at Commerzbank's investment bank, which he helped found.

K2 Intelligence, which is an investigative, compliance, and cyber defense services firm, and Financial Integrity Network, recruited former US Treasury official Danny McGlynn as a senior vice president.

McGlynn served as principal deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Intelligence and Analysis for the US Department of the Treasury, where he was responsible for leading intelligence research and analysis to safeguard the international financial system from abuse and combat threats to national security. McGlynn also held positions as the Treasury's liaison to the US Central Command, as a compliance specialist and investigator for OFAC, and as a Presidential Management Fellow.

As part of his role, McGlynn is responsible for managing and expanding the firm's online products and services team, with particular focus on developing the firm's newest offering, the Dedicated Online Financial Integrity Network.

US-based Balance Point Capital, which focuses on lower middle-market companies, promoted Nathan Elliott to managing director, Adam Sauerteig to senior vice president, Grant Groher to vice president and Dan Freshman to senior associate. Elliott joined Balance Point as a VP in 2014, Sauerteig re-joined Balance Point in 2015 as an associate, Groher joined in 2017 as a senior associate, and Freshman joined in 2018 as an associate. 

Sanctuary Wealth appointed Robert Gilliland to join its network. Gilliland, whose team managed more than $250 million in client assets, brings 25 years of experience to Sanctuary. His new independent wealth management firm, Concenture Wealth Management, is based in Houston, Texas. Before setting up his new firm, Gilliland served more than a decade as senior resident director at Merrill Lynch, where he designed customized strategies and constructed and managed complex client portfolios. For the last three years, he also served on the advisory council to management, a group of senior resident directors who advise and counsel senior leadership at the firm.

Joining Gilliland at Concenture were senior wealth Advisor Karen Heider, who has been part of his team for more than five years, and wealth associate Codi Welch, a financial services professional with nine years' experience.

Raymond James brought in advisor Michael Borza to Raymond James & Associates, its employee advisor broker/dealer – in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Prior to this, Borza worked at Merrill Lynch, where he managed $190 million in client assets. He and senior client associate Angela Toney  are located in the Virginia Beach office managed by branch manager Rob Krebs. The team operates as Borza Wealth Management Group of Raymond James.

Borza, senior vice president, investments, has been in the financial services industry for more than 30 years. He is a graduate of Penn State University and earned a master of science degree in financial management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

Raymond James brought over financial advisor John Malatino to Raymond James & Associates, its employee advisor broker/dealer. Malatino is based in Viera, Florida. Malatino came from Wells Fargo Advisors, where he managed $180 million in client assets. He is joined by senior registered client service associate Fiona Walker and marketing associate Jennifer Malatino. They operate as Precision Wealth Management of Raymond James’ Space Coast team. Malatino has been in the financial services industry for more than 26 years. He first began his career as a business analyst with Wachovia Bank before joining Wachovia Investments as an investment consultant.

The firm brought in financial advisors Jule Eldridge, Jason Newton, and Robb Sasser to Raymond James & Associates – the firm’s employee advisor broker/dealer – in Florence, South Carolina.

Sasser, Eldridge and Newton came from Wells Fargo Advisors, where they previously managed $645 million in client assets. They are located in the Florence office managed by complex manager Dan Parker and joined by financial planning consultant Tyler Morris, senior registered client service associate Ashley Alexander, and practice marketing associate Margie Wood. The team operates as Crescent Advisory Partners of Raymond James.

Eldridge, senior vice president, investments, has been in the financial services industry for over 24 years. Prior to joining Raymond James, he worked for Wells Fargo Advisors for 19 years. Eldridge is a graduate of Wofford College with a degree in business administration and earned his MBA from Francis Marion University.

Newton, vice president, investments, has more than 17 years of financial services experience and is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional. Prior to joining Raymond James, Newton was a vice president of investments at Wells Fargo Advisors. He is a graduate of Francis Marion University with a degree in business administration.

Sasser, managing director, has been in the financial services industry for more than 33 years. Prior to joining the firm, he was a senior vice president and managing director of investments at Wells Fargo Advisors. Sasser is a graduate of Presbyterian College with a degree in business administration.

Merrill Lynch Wealth Management named Michael Simonds as a new market executive for downtown New York City and Brooklyn. Simonds most recently led the firm’s Rockefeller Center office for nine years. He began his wealth management career in 1992 as a financial advisor, and joined the firm in 2010. He graduated from Towson University in Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Courtney McCarthy, who has been the associate market manager for the Rockefeller Center, became interim market executive.

A college football star-turned wealth management employee became national business development executive at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. Craig Young reports to Andy Sieg, president of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. As part of his role, Young supports the firm’s responsible growth strategy, leading programs such as its Advisor Growth Network , Market Executive Strategy Council, and the FA Advisory Council to Management , along with internal events and communications related to these organizations, recognition, and other initiatives.

Prior to this new role, Young most recently served as the MLWM market executive for the Westchester-Greenwich, Connecticut market. He joined Merrill Lynch in 2015 as the associate market executive for what is now Merrill Private Wealth Management in Los Angeles, and from 2016 to 2018 served as the market executive for the Pasadena, California market.

Young is a member of the Bank of America Black Executive Leadership Council and chairman of the Merrill Lynch African American Leadership Council. He holds a BS degree in business administration from California Polytechnic State University where his career as a running back earned him membership in the Cal Poly Athletic Hall of Fame.

In a newly-created position based in San Francisco, Matthews Asia appointed Yu-Ming Wang as president and global chief Investment officer to lead the firm’s investment team. A 35-year veteran of the sector, Yu-Ming was previously deputy president and global CIO for Nikko Asset Management and has managed investment teams in APAC for the past 12 years.

Seb Dovey, a prominent strategy and opinion-former in the wealth management industry – whose efforts have been honored by the publisher of this website – was appointed as chairman of F2 Strategy’s board. Dovey co-founded Scorpio Partnership in 1998 as a global consultancy, strategic research and data business, focusing on areas such as wealth management at a time when the sector was still relatively low-profile in the media and financial industry. He is a regular speaker and writer about industry issues . In 2018 he won the award from WealthBriefing, sister news service to this one, for outstanding contribution to wealth management thought leadership . His business, Scorpio, was sold in 2014 to McLagan, a business owned by AON. Dovey is also a member of Family Wealth Report's editorial board.
 


Argent Financial Group, which operates in the southern states of the US, appointed Donald H “Dut” LeBlanc Jr as executive vice president. Based in Shreveport, Louisiana, LeBlanc reports to Argent chief executive Kyle McDonald. His responsibilities will focus on business development and strategic projects across Argent’s 31 markets. LeBlanc retired from multinational accounting firm KPMG in 2019 after spending 40 years there. He joined KPMG in 1979 as an audit assistant, transferring to the firm’s tax division in 1981 and then becoming a partner in 1988. From 1997 to 2019, he served as office managing partner of KPMG’s Shreveport office. 

Texas-based Comerica appointed Greg Carr as executive vice president for wealth management. Carr reports to Curt Farmer, chairman and chief executive. Michael J Aust, EVP for the retail bank, who announced his retirement in late January, served as the interim wealth management leader. Prior to this, Carr worked at Wells Fargo Private Bank, where he served as senior managing director for the Southeast region, leading a team who provided investment management, private banking, trust, estate, credit, and integrated wealth management services.

AllianceBernstein appointed Michelle Dunstan as global head of responsible investing and Sharon Fay assumes the post of chief responsibility officer. Dunstan partners with Fay, overseeing AB's responsible investing strategy, which includes driving the firm's research and stewardship activities, helping to accelerate the integration of responsible investing into investment decisions and working to embed that ethos into the overall culture of the firm. Joining AB in 2004, Dunstan has nearly 25 years of industry experience. She is a portfolio manager for the Global ESG Improvers portfolio, as well as a senior research analyst for the value portfolios.

As CRO, Fay leads and oversee the firm's responsible investing strategy, while working closely with senior leadership to ingrain responsible investing into the everyday global activities of the firm. Fay has spent three decades at AB and has served in a number of leadership roles.

Professional services firm EisnerAmper, which engages with the wealth management space among others sectors, promoted three of its senior figures. Nicholas Tsafos was named partner-in-charge of the New York office. Tsafos is responsible for the day-to-day operations and long-term growth strategy for the New York office, which has more than 700 professionals. He is also on the board of directors of EisnerAmper Global.

EisnerAmper appointed three of its partners and leaders to the newly-created role of vice chair. 

Michael Breit is VC for strategic relationships. Breit oversees existing client relationships and the cultivation of new business relationships to help the firm meet its growth goals. He is the partner-in-charge of the firm’s sports and entertainment group and was previously the partner-in-charge of the New York office. Christopher Loiacono is made VC for services. Loiacono is responsible for the growth and quality of service offerings. He is also a leader in the tax services group and was previously the managing partner of services.

Jay Weinstein is named VC for industries and markets. Weinstein is responsible for executing business strategies for existing markets and segments and identifying emerging opportunities, in essence, the firm’s chief growth officer. He oversees the accompanying innovation and technology initiatives. Most recently, he was the partner-in-charge of the New Jersey office and the managing partner of markets and industries.

Diane Wasser was elevated to partner-in-charge of the New Jersey offices. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations and long-term growth strategy for the New Jersey offices, which have more than 400 professionals. She is also the founder and partner-in-charge of the firm’s pension services group. Peter J Cogan became managing partner, financial services industry. He is responsible for the strategic growth of the Financial Services practice including the addition of complementary services and any needed capabilities. He is also the leader of the firm’s Financial Services Audit and Assurance Services practice, a director of the Cayman Islands practice, and a director and the board chair of EisnerAmper Global.      

Matthew Maulbeck became a managing partner for audit, with responsibility for overseeing the firm’s audit practice, and focusing on the quality and capabilities of its audit professionals.

Citi Private Bank appointed Itay Blasenheim as global head of direct private investments, holding the newly-created post of managing director and based in New York. In his new role, Blasenheim reports to David Bailin, chief investment officer. Previously, Blasenheim was MD of JP Morgan Private Bank where he was responsible for building and running Morgan Private Ventures, the direct deals and co-investments platform of the private bank. He was also a partner in JP Morgan’s Junius Real Estate Partners, and helped build Highbridge and Gavea. Prior to joining JP Morgan, he was an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis, as well as at Debevoise & Plimpton. Blasenheim, who has been involved in various health and wellness related ventures, is an advisory board member of Sakara Life, a member of Caravan Wellness, and has served on the board of directors for the UJA Federation.

Shepherd Kaplan Krochuk, the RIA, appointed David Perlin as senior vice president, serving as a senior advisor in the wealth management division of SKK. Perlin worked for 35 years in financial markets. He was founder and CEO of Pearl Investment Partners and a managing director at Goldman Sachs where he co-managed the international equity division; he also had senior roles at Morgan Stanley, HSBC and First Boston. Based in Washington, DC, Perlin is vice chairman of the Teach for America DC Regional Board. 

Law firm Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis appointed Frank A Louis and Jeanette Russell as partners in its family law department. Louis is widely recognized as a pre-eminent member of the New Jersey family law bar, with nearly five decades of experience in negotiating and litigating economically complex divorce cases. He represents clients in all aspects of divorce including asset distribution, child support and alimony. Louis is the founding partner of Louis & Russell, a boutique matrimonial firm located in Toms River, New Jersey. Louis is also a lecturer and the published author of over fifty academic articles. 

LOHAS Advisors appointed former Bain consultant Tami Kesselman – a prominent figure in impact investing – as a partner. Kesselman was described by the firm as a “creative and analytical family office strategy advisor”. She is also a regular speaker at impact investor conferences and an annual lecturer at Harvard. Kesselman has facilitated board-level strategy sessions for clients on six continents. She also chairs Opal’s Private Wealth Impact Investing Forum annually, among other events.

Bank of New York Mellon Wealth Management appointed two senior figures. The financial organization appointed Kyle Manley as senior client strategist, based in Dallas, Texas. Manley, who is responsible for leading key business development initiatives across the region for business owners, family offices and tax-exempt organizations, reports to regional president Todd Carlton.

Sarah Williamson was named senior wealth strategist in Denver, Colorado. Williamson is responsible for providing expert advice to high net worth clients and prospects on key wealth planning areas, including estate planning, investment management, family law and trusts. She reports to regional president Eunice Kim. 

US-listed Broadridge Financial Solutions appointed Chris Perry as president. Perry succeeds Broadridge’s chief executive Tim Gokey, who remained as CEO and a director of the company. Perry had led Broadridge’s global sales, marketing and client solutions organization. He joined Broadridge in 2014 and has more than 25 years of experience in banking, brokerage and financial information services. 

Fiduciary Trust Company International, a subsidiary of financial group Franklin Templeton, appointed Gene Todd as executive vice president for business development. Based in San Mateo, California, where Franklin Templeton is based, Todd is responsible for overseeing all aspects of client development. Todd has more than 25 years of experience in areas including wealth management, private equity, venture capital, M&A, and leveraged buyouts. He joins Fiduciary Trust Company International from First Bank in St Louis, where he served as executive vice president and head of the wealth management group.
